Smart Glass

Clear on. Frosted off. Privacy on demand, with no blinds and nothing hanging off the glass.

Switchable Smart Glass, fitted in Houston, goes from clear to opaque on a switch, a remote or a phone.

Nothing moves and nothing is added to the opening: only the current through the film changes.

It suits the rooms where privacy is occasional rather than permanent, such as boardrooms, clinics and exam rooms, executive offices and bathrooms. Where a room needs privacy all day, frosted or carved glass is the cheaper and simpler answer, and we will say so.

Before you ask

What we need
from you

Send whatever you already have. If the artwork is not right for glass we will say so, and tell you what would make it work.

  • 01ArtworkA vector file (AI, EPS, PDF or SVG) carries the finest detail. A high-resolution PNG or JPG works for most pieces, and a photograph of the old one works when that is all there is.
  • 02QuantityOne piece, a matched set or a full run. Tell us roughly how many and whether every piece is the same.
  • 03The dateWhen you need it in your hands, and whether that date can move.
  • 04Where it goesA desk, a wall, an opening, a gift box or a shipping crate. It changes what we suggest.

Questions

Smart Glass,
answered.

Can it go on glass we already have?

Yes. It is supplied either laminated into new glazing or applied to existing glass as a film.

How is it switched?

By wall control, by handheld remote or from a phone.

What happens in a power cut?

The glass returns to its frosted state. The frosted state is the one that needs no power.

Is it worth it over frosted glass?

It depends on the room. If the glass needs to be private all day, frosted film or carved glass costs less and has nothing to wire. Smart Glass earns its place where a room has to be open some of the time and shut the rest.

Does it need planning before the build?

It is a build decision more than a finish decision. Panel sizes, switch locations and wiring runs get settled before anything is ordered.

Do you install Smart Glass outside Houston?

Yes. The shop is on W 34th Street in Houston, and Smart Glass is measured on site and fitted across the Houston metro, from Katy and Cypress to Sugar Land, Pearland, Kingwood and The Woodlands. See the service area, or ask if your address is not on it.

Got something in mind?

Send us the idea.
We will tell you
what it takes.

A logo file, a photograph, a rough sketch on the back of something. That is enough to start. Tell us what the piece is for and roughly how many, and you will get a real answer back rather than a brochure.
