Glass Etching, Engraving & Sandblasting

Three ways of cutting light into a surface.

A craftsman at the blast cabinet, hands through the glove ports, sand-carving a panel of glass in the Houston studio.
Sand-carving at the blast cabinet.

Glass etching, engraving and sandblasting in Houston, on glass and on stone, metal and acrylic.

The technique is chosen to suit the piece: a fine frosted line on a wine glass and a deep multi-depth relief on a lobby panel are different jobs.

What changes between them is how far into the material the work goes, and that changes how the piece catches light, how it photographs and how it reads from across a room.

Compare the three depths

Depth of cut

A fine line,
or a deep relief.

The same shop, three different depths. Compare them side by side.

01 / 03 Fine detail

Three depths, one bench

Fine work suits personalised glassware, gifts and smaller signage. Deeper carving holds shadow, so it reads from further away and takes light better. Gold fill puts colour into the carve itself.

Before you ask

What we need
from you

Send whatever you already have. If the artwork is not right for glass we will say so, and tell you what would make it work.

  • 01ArtworkA vector file (AI, EPS, PDF or SVG) carries the finest detail. A high-resolution PNG or JPG works for most pieces, and a photograph of the old one works when that is all there is.
  • 02QuantityOne piece, a matched set or a full run. Tell us roughly how many and whether every piece is the same.
  • 03The dateWhen you need it in your hands, and whether that date can move.
  • 04Where it goesA desk, a wall, an opening, a gift box or a shipping crate. It changes what we suggest.

Questions

The craft,
answered.

Which technique will my piece need?

That depends on the material, the size of the detail and how far away it will be read from. Send the artwork and tell us what the piece is and we will tell you which way suits it.

Can you work on stone, metal or acrylic?

Yes. Stone at monument scale, and metal, acrylic and wood as well. It is the same shop and the same bench.

Can colour go into the carve?

Yes. Gold fill and other colour fills sit in the carve itself rather than on the surface.

Can you match an existing piece?

Send a photograph of it, along with anything you know about the original artwork. If it can be matched we will say so, and if it cannot we will tell you what is possible instead.

Do you work outside Houston?

Yes. Panels, doors and other installed glass are fitted across the Houston metro, and pieces that can be boxed are shipped across Texas and beyond. See the service area.

Got something in mind?

Send us the idea.
We will tell you
what it takes.

A logo file, a photograph, a rough sketch on the back of something. That is enough to start. Tell us what the piece is for and roughly how many, and you will get a real answer back rather than a brochure.
